Blacklist records can change after a check. A “not blacklisted” result does not confirm that the phone is unlocked, paid off, or eligible for activation on every carrier.

Understand the result

What does an IMEI blacklist check tell you?

It answers one important question: whether the IMEI is currently reported as blacklisted. It does not replace a carrier-lock or financing check.

Not blacklisted

No blacklist report was returned for the IMEI at the time of the check. That is a good sign when buying or selling a used phone, but it does not guarantee the phone is unlocked or fully paid off.

Blacklisted

The IMEI is currently reported as blacklisted. A blacklisted phone may have been reported lost, stolen, or otherwise blocked and may not be able to use cellular service normally.

Before you buy or sell

Check the IMEI before money changes hands

An IMEI check gives you one more piece of information before you buy a used phone, accept a trade-in, or hand a device to a buyer.

Buying used? Check the IMEI before paying whenever possible.
Selling? Knowing the blacklist status can help prevent surprises during inspection.
Still unsure? Also verify carrier lock and financing status separately.

Does this check tell me whether the phone is financed?

No. This checker only tells you whether a device has been reported lost or stolen. It won't show an outstanding balance or other carrier restrictions.

What does a blacklisted IMEI mean?

It means the device has been reported lost or stolen. Blacklisted devices can't be activated on any network.

Can I still sell a phone with a blacklisted IMEI?

No. We don't buy devices that have been reported lost or stolen.

Can a phone become blacklisted later?

Yes. A device can be reported lost or stolen at any time, so your result only reflects the device's status at the moment you checked.

Is a clean IMEI the same as an unlocked phone?

No. Clean means the device has no known restrictions. Unlocked means it isn't tied to a specific carrier. Those are two separate checks.
